Trump Administration Targets Political Opponents and Government Officials

Donald Trump has launched multiple federal investigations and subpoenas targeting political rivals, state officials, and leaders of the Federal Reserve and intelligence community.

The administration of Donald Trump has initiated a wide-ranging series of legal actions and federal investigations targeting political opponents and government officials. Federal prosecutors served grand jury subpoenas to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey to investigate the alleged obstruction of a federal immigration operation.

The Justice Department also targeted Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and board member Lisa Cook. Powell described these actions as a pretext to undermine the independence of the central bank. Other targets of the administration include former FBI Director James Comey, former CIA Director John Brennan, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and former Special Counsel Jack Smith.

While a federal judge dismissed some indictments against Comey and James due to the illegal appointment of prosecutors, investigations into other figures, such as Senator Adam Schiff, remain active. White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles described the president's return to office as having an element of a vengeance tour.
