Andy Burnham Maintains PIP Travel Rules Pending Timms Review

Prime Minister Andy Burnham maintained current Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) rules for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claimants traveling abroad. Under these guidelines, the 4 million PIP claimants must notify the DWP of their destination, duration, and purpose of travel if they leave the country for more than four weeks, as such absences can impact benefit entitlement.

Burnham reappointed Pat McFadden as the head of the DWP. The administration indicated that parameters for PIP claimants will remain largely unchanged until the government receives final recommendations from the Timms Review later this year.

Addressing broader welfare objectives, Burnham stated he intends to find a “fair and sustainable way to bring the welfare bill down”. He plans to achieve this through reforms to the education system and the expansion of mental health support.
