Nvidia Corp. is in preliminary discussions with Rebellions, a South Korean AI chip designer, to explore a potential technical partnership, investment, or acquisition. The talks follow a meeting this week at Nvidia headquarters in Santa Clara, California, between Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Rebellions CEO Sunghyun Park.
Rebellions specializes in neural processing units for data center AI inference and holds a current valuation of approximately $2.3 billion. The company has previously raised $850 million from investors including Arm Holdings Plc, Samsung Ventures, and SK Hynix Inc.
While the move is intended to help Nvidia maintain its dominance in the AI sector, the deal may face significant regulatory challenges. Potential hurdles include antitrust scrutiny from the United States Department of Justice and opposition from the South Korean government, which classifies semiconductors as critical strategic assets.
