GSK Invests $800 Million in Pennsylvania Biopharma Hub

GSK will invest over $800 million to transform its Upper Merion site into a biopharmaceutical manufacturing and research hub, creating 300 new jobs.

GSK plc will invest more than $800 million to transform its site in Upper Merion, Pennsylvania, into a comprehensive biopharmaceutical manufacturing and research hub. Announced by Governor Josh Shapiro's office on Friday, the project will integrate drug manufacturing, research and development, quality testing, and digital operations within Montgomery County.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027. The expanded site will include a new commercial-scale biologics manufacturing facility, a research pilot plant, and a centralized quality-control laboratory to support both clinical and commercial production of biologic medicines. The investment is expected to create over 300 new jobs while retaining approximately 4,500 existing full-time positions.

Pennsylvania officials stated that the company will be eligible for state manufacturing tax incentives. This project, combined with a previously announced initiative in Lancaster County, brings GSK's total planned investment in the state to nearly $1.7 billion.
