Elon Musk Donates Over $440 Million to Republican Midterms

Elon Musk has contributed more than $440 million to Republican causes in an unprecedented spending push ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

Political parties and allied super PACs are spending an estimated $1.4 billion on advertisements and field operations in the final two weeks before the November 3 midterm elections. Federal Election Commission filings show that over $1 billion was spent during the first half of October on digital and television ads, canvassers, and events.

Elon Musk has emerged as the cycle's most prominent donor, contributing over $440 million to Republican causes, an amount with no modern precedent for a single individual. Musk disclosed nearly $420 million in giving earlier in the month, later increasing that total with approximately $76 million sent to his America PAC in the first half of October alone. A significant portion of this funding, including $158 million routed through the Senate Leadership Fund, targets the Texas Senate race to support Attorney General Ken Paxton.

While Democratic candidates lead in individual fundraising, Republicans maintain a financial advantage through outside groups. The top five GOP groups raised $732 million more than their Democratic counterparts, with the Senate Leadership Fund collecting roughly a third of that $1.6 billion total. Other major contributors include Michael R. Bloomberg, who donated approximately $66 million to federal committees, and Republican donor Dick Uihlein.

Despite the record spending, recent polls indicate Democratic candidates lead in key states including Texas, Alaska, and Ohio. Musk's political activity coincides with a proposed $3.7 trillion merger for Tesla and SpaceX that currently requires regulatory approval.
