BJP Leaders Protest in Delhi Demanding Congress Apology
Bharatiya Janata Party leaders marched in West Delhi demanding an apology from the Congress party for the 1984 anti-Sikh violence.
Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party led a protest march through the Sikh-dominated neighborhoods of Hari Nagar and Tilak Nagar in West Delhi on November 1, 2026. The protesters demanded a formal apology from the Indian National Congress and Rahul Gandhi for the anti-Sikh violence that occurred in 1984.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri led the demonstration, citing official figures that 2,733 Sikhs were killed in Delhi. He characterized the events as a "well-planned" massacre and genocide rather than a spontaneous riot. The protest coincided with the scheduled 'Vote Bachao Desh Bachao' rally organized by the INDIA bloc at Ramlila Maidan.
BJP leaders criticized the timing of the Congress-led rally, arguing that holding a political event on November 1 insults the Sikh community, as the original violence took place between October 31 and November 3, 1984.
