Trump Promises Citizen Dividend at Nebraska Campaign Rally
President Donald Trump held a campaign rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, promising a $5,000 citizen dividend if Republicans regain control of Congress.
President Donald Trump held a campaign rally on October 5, 2026, at the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center in Grand Island, Nebraska, to support Senator Pete Ricketts and Governor Jim Pillen ahead of the November midterms. Addressing a crowd of 1,500 to 2,000 supporters, Trump promised a $5,000 dividend to adult U.S. citizens if Republicans regain control of the House and Senate, stating the payments would be funded by tariffs and economic growth. He also announced an executive order allowing the purchase of tax-free red-dyed diesel for any purpose.
During the event, Governor Jim Pillen presented Trump with a certificate naming him an honorary admiral in the Nebraska Navy. Other Republican figures, including Attorney General Mike Hilgers and Representative Adrian Smith, also spoke. Outside the venue, the Nebraska Democratic Party organized a largely peaceful protest against the candidates.
The rally served as a platform to attack Senator Ricketts' nonpartisan challenger, Dan Osborn. Ricketts' staff distributed signs reading "I'm Billy Bob" and "I'm Mary Jane," mocking leaked audio in which Osborn suggested some Republican voters had lives that "probably suck so bad" they only care about being on the "winning team." While Osborn apologized for the remarks, Trump used the rally to accuse him of threatening gun rights and Social Security.
