Donald Trump Demolishes White House East Wing for New Ballroom

President Donald Trump ordered the demolition of the White House East Wing to build an opulent ballroom modeled after Mar-a-Lago and courts in Riyadh and Doha.

President Donald Trump ordered the demolition of the White House East Wing to construct a new, opulent ballroom. The destruction took place over three days and was first revealed to the public through a photograph sent to The Washington Post.

The new structure features gold leaf and superfluous stairs, with a design modeled after the Mar-a-Lago ballroom and opulent courts in Riyadh and Doha. Trump justified the project by stating, "You have these state dinners, and you have them in these shitty little tents in the back. It’s not befitting."

Despite public backlash and legal challenges, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in late August 2026 that construction could proceed. Critics and Democrats have condemned the project for erasing a site of women's history and the traditional soft-power role of the Office of the First Lady. Some opponents have proposed converting the site into a soup kitchen or a museum of authoritarian corruption after 2028.
