Gbenga Olawepo Hashim Claims APC Would Win Under 20 Percent

Gbenga Olawepo Hashim asserts that President Bola Tinubu knows the ruling APC would fail to secure 20 percent of the vote in a fair 2027 election.

PDP chieftain Gbenga Olawepo Hashim stated that President Bola Tinubu believes the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would fail to secure 20 percent of the vote in a free and fair 2027 general election. Speaking on Channels Television's 'Sunday Politics,' Hashim argued that the APC's reluctance toward electoral transparency and its fear of the opposition indicate a lack of genuine popularity.

Hashim described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Nigeria's most competitive party despite internal challenges and defections. He attributed these internal struggles to elite greed. He further claimed that the APC faces more systemic issues and internal tensions than the PDP.

These assertions come as political actors begin strategizing for the next general election. The APC currently maintains a dominant position, controlling 31 of Nigeria's 36 states following various defections from opposition parties.
