Democrats Sweep Maine Governor and Senate Races
Hannah Pingree won the Maine gubernatorial race and Troy Jackson unseated Senator Susan Collins in a dominant night for Democrats across the state.
Democrats secured major victories across Maine in the November 3, 2026, elections. Hannah Pingree won the gubernatorial race with approximately 55% of the vote, defeating Republican Bobby Charles and independent Rick Bennett. Pingree campaigned on reducing the cost of living, specifically focusing on affordable housing, healthcare, child care, and heating oil. She is scheduled to succeed Governor Janet Mills on January 13, 2027.
In other high-profile contests, Democrat Troy Jackson unseated longtime Republican Senator Susan Collins, winning with 54% of the vote. Representative Chellie Pingree also won reelection to her tenth term in Maine's 1st Congressional District. The Associated Press called the race shortly after polls closed, with Chellie Pingree holding a 66% lead over Republican challenger Ronald Russell. Following her victory, she stated that her work in Congress would be guided by constituents who are tired of Donald Trump and Republican policies.
The race for Maine's Second Congressional District between Republican Paul LePage and Democrat Matthew Dunlap remained tied at 50% and will be decided via ranked-choice voting.
