Chuck Schumer Demands Probe Into Trump's Taxpayer-Funded Ads

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is seeking investigations into President Donald Trump for allegedly using Department of Homeland Security funds to finance political advertisements.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is demanding investigations into President Donald Trump for the alleged misuse of taxpayer funds to finance government-sponsored campaign advertisements. Schumer announced Tuesday that he is requesting two government watchdog agencies preserve records regarding a $20 million ad campaign that portrays the president in a favorable light. The ads, which carry a "Paid by the U.S. Government" disclaimer, reportedly used funds originally intended for the Department of Homeland Security.

The campaign includes a spot reusing 2024 campaign footage and a new advertisement featuring Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding the removal of Nicolás Maduro. Following bipartisan backlash, Donald Trump announced Monday that his super PAC, MAGA Inc., would pay for the advertisements. However, White House officials clarified Tuesday that this commitment applies only to future ads and the super PAC will not reimburse the government for the more than $10 million already spent.

Schumer characterized the campaign as "propaganda" and a "gross waste and abuse of taxpayer dollars." He is reporting the president to the Federal Election Commission for illegal coordination with MAGA Inc., arguing that the super PAC's attempt to pick up the tab for existing government spending is itself an illegal action.
