Trump Mandates AI Firms Fund Energy Infrastructure
President Donald Trump launched a plan requiring AI companies to build their own power infrastructure to prevent household electricity rates from rising.
Donald Trump announced the Ratepayer Protection Plan and the associated Ratepayer Protection Pledge to ensure artificial intelligence companies fund the energy infrastructure needed for their expanding power requirements. Speaking in Washington, the president stated that more than 220 technology firms, utility providers, and state governments have signed the pledge.
The policy requires big tech companies to construct their own power plants alongside AI data centers to prevent soaring demand from increasing household utility bills. Under this framework, surplus energy generated by these facilities is intended to flow back into the national grid to lower overall electricity rates.
Trump highlighted regional outcomes of the plan, noting that base electricity rates for households in Georgia and Iowa have been frozen. He specifically cited Google's investments in Georgia as a means to eliminate property taxes and a $27 billion project backed by Meta in Louisiana designed to provide teacher bonuses and consumer savings.
