Pennsylvania Farmers Oppose Trump Foreign Beef Import Plan

Farmers and agricultural officials gathered Thursday for the annual Cambria County Farm Tour at Moonshine Mine Distillery in Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania, to address legislative priorities and economic pressures. The central point of contention was a plan by Donald Trump to import 300,000 metric tons of foreign beef to be sold at 25% below market prices in an effort to lower consumer costs.

Marty Yahner, president of the Cambria County Farm Bureau, described the policy as misguided and potentially devastating to American cattlemen. Yahner argued that mandating foreign beef be sold at such a steep discount undermines domestic standards and market stability. U.S. Representative John Joyce expressed full support for American farmers during the event, while Representative Glenn Thompson was identified as a primary channel for delivering these concerns to the president.

Beyond the beef import dispute, participants advocated for the passage of a new federal farm bill and the permanent nationwide sale of E15 ethanol blends. At the state level, the group pushed for Senate Bill 1362 to increase whole milk consumption in schools and Senate Bill 225 to ensure fair compensation for landowners facing eminent domain.
