Trump Promises $5,000 Checks if Republicans Win Midterms
President Donald Trump pledged $5,000 payments to every American adult if Republicans maintain congressional majorities in the November 3 midterm elections.
President Donald Trump has promised $5,000 government checks to every American adult if Republicans maintain their majorities in the House and Senate during the November 3 midterm elections. The proposed plan would cost over $1 trillion, which the administration claims can be funded through trade deals, foreign investment, and government stakes in private companies to help citizens recover from inflation.
Beyond the general payouts, Trump announced an $8 billion Harvest Fuel Relief program to help farmers offset diesel costs and tied the permanent implementation of year-round E-15 ethanol sales to the re-election of Senator Roger Marshall in Kansas. He also proposed a program offering up to $30,000 for reporting government fraud and pledged to automatically enroll children in stock-investment Trump accounts.
While Trump has already distributed $90 payments to Medicare recipients and $500 rebates for certain Affordable Care Act plans, critics and some supporters question the feasibility of the $5,000 checks. Democrats have characterized the pledges as attempts to buy votes, while others warn the spending would increase budget deficits and inflation. Republican candidates have largely avoided mentioning the promise in their own campaign advertisements.
