Omar Abdullah Rejects Pakistan Interference in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah rejected remarks by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370. While Abdullah acknowledged that the region has grievances concerning the 2019 decision, he asserted that the matter is internal to India and that Pakistan has nothing to do with these affairs. He urged Islamabad to address human rights violations and killings in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir instead of interfering.

These statements followed remarks from Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who marked August 5 as Youm-e-Istehsal, or the day of exploitation, and described the constitutional changes as a human rights violation. The Ministry of External Affairs of India dismissed Pakistan's comments as a desperate manoeuvre to divert attention from its own record.

Despite his rejection of Pakistani interference, Abdullah reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference remains committed to reversing the 2019 constitutional changes. He stated that the region would settle its needs with the central government but warned that Pakistani interference weakens the local case.
