Nigeria Rescues 308 Kidnapped Citizens in Record Operation
Nigerian security forces rescued 308 kidnapped citizens from the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in the largest same-day rescue operation in the country's history.
Nigerian joint security forces rescued 308 kidnapped citizens from the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in New Bussa, Niger State. Officials described the mission as the largest same-day rescue operation in the history of the country. The victims included 145 people taken from Niger State and 163 individuals abducted from the Woro Community in Kwara State during a February 3 attack that killed between 150 and 200 people.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, praised the inter-agency collaboration and directed security agencies to strengthen rapid response capabilities, community-level intelligence, and early warning systems to prevent future abductions. The operation was coordinated by the National Counter Terrorism Centre and involved the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Services.
Rescued citizens are currently receiving medical care at Wawa Cantonment. They will be handed over to their respective state governments for further rehabilitation.
