President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted the 36th NATO Summit in Ankara, combining high-level security diplomacy with a curated showcase of Turkish gastronomy.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted the 36th NATO Heads of State and Government Summit in Ankara, utilizing the gathering to advance both security architecture and cultural soft power. During the two-day event, Erdogan conducted high-level meetings with leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war, Syrian stability, and a ceasefire in Gaza. A primary diplomatic outcome was the signing of a Security and Defense Partnership Agreement between Türkiye and the United Kingdom.
Parallel to these defense discussions, the Turkish government employed gastro-diplomacy to present the nation's culinary heritage to over 30 heads of state. At the Presidential Complex, two-Michelin-starred chef Fatih Tutak curated a gala dinner featuring regional Anatolian ingredients and sustainable sourcing. Additional culinary efforts included a luncheon at Çankaya Mansion designed by chef Osman Sezener and delegation meals prepared by chef Sinem Özler.
Communications Director Burhanettin Duran stated that the summit demonstrated Türkiye's active role in strengthening the Transatlantic Bond and international stability. The integration of professional hospitality, supported by the Turkish Chefs Federation and executive chef Zeki Acikoz, aimed to position Turkish cuisine as a tool for cultural exchange alongside the alliance's strategic military objectives.
