Ukraine Launches Massive Drone Wave as Russia Strikes Cities

Ukraine deployed hundreds of drones in a massive aerial attack on Russia while Russian forces launched widespread strikes across Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

The Government of Ukraine launched one of the largest aerial attacks of the war on Sunday, deploying hundreds of drones across Russian territory. The strikes killed at least six people, including five in the Rostov region and one in the Moscow region, and ignited a fire at a Wildberries warehouse in Podolsk. Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed to have destroyed 822 Ukrainian drones during the operation.

Simultaneously, the Military of Russia conducted extensive strikes across Ukraine. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces launched more than 80 attacks using drones, artillery, and aerial bombs within 24 hours, killing two people and damaging high schools, an apartment building, and a business. Other Russian strikes killed at least four people in Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Kryvyi Rih, where an ArcelorMittal steel plant was hit. In Kyiv, Russian attacks torched a landmark book market and targeted a Flamingo missile manufacturing facility.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Russian forces strike civilian infrastructure wherever their ballistic missiles can reach. The conflict's aerial reach extended into neighboring airspace, where a Spanish Air and Space Force F-18 fighter jet shot down a drone in Romanian airspace near Galati. Moldova's Ministry of Defense also reported a Geran-type Shahed drone entering its airspace from Ukraine before exiting toward Romania.
