Trump Appeals 34 Felony Convictions in New York Court

Donald Trump is seeking to overturn 34 felony convictions for falsifying business records during an appeal hearing before a New York state court.

Lawyers for Donald Trump appeared before a New York appeals court on Thursday to seek the reversal of his conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. The original verdict stems from a $130,000 payment made by former attorney Michael Cohen to adult film performer Stormy Daniels to conceal an alleged sexual encounter before the 2016 election.

Trump's legal team argues the conviction resulted from immense political pressure and contends that evidence regarding White House communications should have been excluded under the doctrine of presidential immunity. Conversely, the Manhattan District Attorney's office maintains the evidence involved unofficial conduct and that the trial's legal theory was legitimate.

This state appeal occurs as Trump simultaneously challenges an August federal judge's decision to deny a request to move the case to federal court, with those arguments set for November 16. The legal proceedings follow a recent election in which Republicans suffered widespread losses.
