Anyim Pius Anyim Urges Southeast Alliances to Secure Presidency

Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim stated that no candidate from Nigeria's Southeast region can secure the presidency in isolation. Speaking to Arise News, Anyim argued that the region must rely on political arithmetic and cooperation with other regions to achieve its presidential ambitions.

Anyim attributed the Southeast's failure to produce a president since 1999 to the Peoples Democratic Party, claiming the party failed to zone its presidential ticket to the region in previous cycles. He advocated for a rotation system where the presidency moves to the North after President Bola Tinubu's second term, eventually returning to the Southeast in 12 years.

These strategic considerations led Anyim to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress. He affirmed that President Tinubu is entitled to a second term for the Southwest and maintained that the APC is best positioned to serve the region's long-term interests. While acknowledging the popularity of Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate Peter Obi in the Southeast, Anyim emphasized that nation-building should prioritize justice, the rule of law, and institutional development over immediate infrastructure gains.
