Narendra Modi Marks 25 Years of Continuous Executive Leadership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 25 years of uninterrupted leadership as a head of government, surpassing the previous Indian record for the longest-serving elected leader.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 25 years of uninterrupted executive office on October 6, 2026. His tenure began with his swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, and continues through his current role as Prime Minister of India. In reaching this milestone, Modi surpassed the previous Indian record held by former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling, who served for 24 years and 165 days.
The Union Cabinet of India passed a resolution honoring Modi's leadership, which Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said celebrates a journey guided by the principle of "Nation First and Citizen First." The resolution highlighted achievements in poverty alleviation, women's empowerment via the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, and national security actions including the 2016 Surgical Strikes, 2019 Balakot Air Strikes, and 2025 Operation Sindoor.
Simultaneously, the Manipur Cabinet adopted a resolution expressing gratitude for Modi's developmental focus on the Northeast region. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh cited the arrival of railway services in 2022 and the 2023 peace agreement with the UNLF (P) as key milestones. Both the national and state governments reaffirmed their commitment to the vision of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047.
