Delhi Police File Charges Against Rahul Gandhi After CEC Protests

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were detained and charged by Delhi Police during INDIA bloc protests demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation.

Delhi Police registered three First Information Reports against Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other INDIA bloc MPs following protests on Wednesday and Thursday. The charges include alleged assault on police personnel, misbehaviour, and obstruction of government work. The demonstrations targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

In New Delhi, police detained Gandhi and Vadra as they attempted to march toward Jantar Mantar and allegedly entered the Akashvani Bhavan premises without permission. During the unrest, Vadra staged a sit-in, lying on the street while holding a copy of the Constitution. Gandhi led a bus procession and a surprise dharna, vowing that the opposition would face arrests and continue street protests until Kumar resigns.

The unrest extended beyond the capital, with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav leading a march toward the Raj Bhavan in Patna. Yadav accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating vote theft to destroy democracy. To maintain solidarity, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hosted a second consecutive lunch for INDIA bloc leaders in New Delhi on Thursday.
