Democrats Sweep All Texas Statewide Races in 2026 Election

Democratic candidates won every statewide office in Texas, ousting incumbent Republicans including Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.

Democratic candidates won every statewide race in Texas during the November 4, 2026, election, defeating incumbent Republicans in the governor's office, state agency leadership, and the highest appellate courts. Gina Hinojosa, a state representative, became the first Hispanic female elected governor of Texas after defeating three-term Governor Greg Abbott. Other key victories included State Representative Vikki Goodwin for lieutenant governor and State Senator Nathan Johnson for attorney general.

Democrats also flipped all state commissioner races and ousted every incumbent Republican on the Texas Supreme Court, the 15th Court of Appeals, and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. Unofficial results from the Texas Secretary of State’s Office show Republican losses generally ranging between 5 and 8 percentage points. The sweep included the defeat of several longtime conservative incumbents who had previously never lost an election and had received endorsements from Donald Trump.

Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick have since conceded their losses. Abbott contacted Governor-elect Hinojosa to offer congratulations and assistance with the transition of power. Patrick acknowledged the results, stating that the election was fair and that he accepts the will of the voters. Both leaders defended their records and discussed their accomplishments while formally accepting the decision of the electorate.
