U.S. Pledges $2.5 Billion in Strategic ASEAN Investments

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced $2.5 billion in strategic investments for Southeast Asian infrastructure and energy during a conference in Pasay City.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed the United States' full commitment to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during the ASEAN Post-Ministerial Conference in Pasay City on July 22, 2026. Rubio described the regional bloc as the primary platform for U.S. engagement in Southeast Asia, stating that the development of the region serves U.S. national interests.

To support this strategic alignment, the U.S. announced $2.5 billion in total investments. This includes $1.5 billion allocated through the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation to improve aviation infrastructure, energy security, and supply chains. Rubio also pledged nearly $130 million to support demining efforts across the region.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn responded by calling for a more resilient partnership. The two parties are currently preparing to mark 50 years of dialogue relations next year, which Sokhonn noted reflects a shared determination to build a safer and more prosperous future.
