European Commission Disburses €1.24 Billion for Ukrainian Defense
The European Commission disbursed €1.24 billion to Ukraine to fund the domestic production of drones and missiles to counter Russian aggression.
The European Commission disbursed €1.24 billion to Ukraine on October 7, 2026, to support the procurement of drones, drone interceptors, drone ammunition, and missiles produced by Ukrainian entities. This payment is part of the defense component of a larger €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan, which allocates €60 billion for defense and €30 billion for budgetary assistance through 2027.
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated the funding is intended to strengthen Ukraine's ability to protect its people and infrastructure against what she described as Russia's "deliberate strategy of terror." The disbursement is part of a broader 2026 plan to provide €28.3 billion to bolster Ukraine's defense industrial capacity.
For the remainder of 2026, Ukraine has access to €32.5 billion in financial support, including €28.1 billion from the Support Loan and €4.4 billion from the initial Ukraine Facility. Since 2022, the European Union and its member states have provided a total of €228.7 billion in support, a figure that includes €3.8 billion derived from immobilized Russian assets.
