Trump Announces Gaza Agreement for Full Hamas Disarmament

President Donald Trump announced a phased agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza following mediation talks in Cairo involving Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey. The deal, overseen by Trump's created Board of Peace, aims to establish a new Palestinian administration while ensuring Israeli security through the surrender of firearms, long-range rockets, and tunnel network maps, all subject to international verification.

Diplomat Nickolay Mladenov stated the plan is designed to provide Israel with the strategic incentive to end military operations and withdraw from the Gaza Strip once the territory is verifiably demilitarized. However, the announcement coincided with Israeli airstrikes that killed at least six Palestinians in Gaza.

Stakeholders remain divided on the terms. Hamas officials characterized the agreement as a draft, asserting that no disarmament will occur until Israel withdraws. Conversely, the Cabinet of Israel expressed doubt regarding Hamas's commitment, demanding full demilitarization and the removal of all weapons before any agreement proceeds. Israeli officials noted that the current proposal does not meet these conditions and remain wary of security risks ahead of upcoming elections.
