MI5 Warns Iran Now Targets UK Military Sites
MI5 head Ken McCallum announced that Iran has shifted its UK operations to target military sites following a suspected plot against RAF Fairford.
MI5 head Ken McCallum announced that Iran has shifted its operations in the United Kingdom from targeting dissidents and Jewish communities toward harder targets, specifically military sites. This assessment follows a suspected September plot against the U.S.-run RAF Fairford air base, which Prime Minister Andy Burnham attributed as almost certainly directed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard.
The incident at RAF Fairford led the United States to withdraw B-1 bombers from the base. While seven men were arrested and released on bail, reports indicate the vehicles involved contained gasoline rather than explosives. In response to these activities, the United States, Britain, and 25 other nations issued a joint statement condemning Iran's use of hybrid attacks.
The Government of Iran has categorically rejected the accusations, calling them a potential false-flag operation and demanding concrete evidence. Meanwhile, McCallum warned that AI is supercharging cybersecurity threats and could enable the creation of novel bioweapons, prompting MI5 to establish an AI Threat Assessment Center.
