Anthropic Proposes AI Bill to Block High-Risk Models

Anthropic PBC presented a draft bill to United States lawmakers proposing a new regulatory framework for artificial intelligence safety and security. The proposal seeks to grant the government authority to block the release of an AI model if it is determined to pose an imminent risk of causing more than $1 billion in damages or killing or injuring more than 50 people.

Under the proposed framework, these restrictions would be triggered if the risks involve the AI creating or releasing a biological weapon, executing a cyberattack, or evolving beyond human control. The draft bill aims to establish clear thresholds for government intervention to prevent catastrophic outcomes associated with advanced AI development.
