Kashmiri Diaspora Protests Pakistani Repression in Bradford

Kashmiri activists in the UK are protesting against the Government of Pakistan following violent crackdowns and internet blackouts in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Protests by the Kashmiri diaspora erupted outside the Pakistani Consulate in Bradford, United Kingdom, between July 15 and July 17, 2026. Organized by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) and led by figures such as Mahmood Kashmiri of the Jammu Kashmir National Independence Alliance, demonstrators accused the Government of Pakistan of executing civilians, conducting enforced abductions, and raiding homes in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

These demonstrations respond to widespread unrest that began around June 8, 2026, in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Local protesters led by the JAAC have demonstrated against high electricity tariffs, economic exploitation, and political discrimination. The Government of Pakistan responded to the unrest by banning the JAAC under anti-terrorism laws, arresting its leadership, and implementing region-wide internet blackouts to obscure the scale of casualties.

Mahmood Kashmiri alleged that Pakistani authorities violated a 2025 agreement with the Jammu Kashmir Joint People's Action Committee, escalating state oppression instead of resolving grievances. In the UK, protesters called for an international boycott of Pakistan's tourism and airline services, and urged the diaspora to stop remittances. Meanwhile, UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk has called for the restoration of internet access and impartial investigations into deaths occurring ahead of the July 27 regional legislative elections.
