Armenia Detains Former President Robert Kocharyan Amid Political Unrest

Armenian authorities detained Robert Kocharyan, the former president and leader of the opposition Armenia Alliance, sparking domestic political tension. Following the arrest, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed parliament to counter claims from opposition forces. Pashinyan asserted that the opposition is seeking the entry of Collective Security Treaty Organization peacekeepers into the country, a move he declared will not happen.

Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov responded to the developments by stating that political processes in Armenia should be conducted in strict compliance with the law. Peskov noted that the rights of all participants in the political process must be preserved, describing the current situation in the republic as involving very complex processes.
