Seyi Makinde Criticizes Tinubu Over Power Transmission Protocols

Presidential candidate Seyi Makinde unveiled his Reset Agenda for Nigeria during a town hall meeting in Sokoto on Monday, using the platform to criticize President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Makinde argued that Tinubu violated Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution by failing to transmit power to Vice President Kashim Shettima during a three-week working vacation to Europe. Makinde pledged that if elected in 2027, he would follow the Constitution to the letter by transmitting power during vacations.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio dismissed claims of a leadership vacuum on Tuesday, clarifying that he is not the acting president despite the simultaneous absence of both Tinubu and Shettima from Nigeria. Akpabio stated that Tinubu, who departed on August 30 and is expected to return this weekend, continues to run the affairs of the country via the internet.

The Presidency maintains that the president remains actively engaged, citing his meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and his order for an investigation into the deaths of 37 illegal miners in Minna. To manage official functions while Shettima attends the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, the president delegated duties to Shettima and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume.
