Nyesom Wike Announces Political Reconciliation With Governor Siminalayi Fubara

Minister Nyesom Wike announced that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reconciled with his political camp to support President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election bid.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike announced on July 28, 2026, that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reconciled with the political structure that originally brought him to power. The announcement followed a prolonged conflict between the two leaders that included impeachment attempts against Fubara by lawmakers loyal to Wike.

As part of the truce, Fubara withdrew from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary to promote stability and endorsed APC candidate Kingsley Chinda during a July 22 event at the Rivers Medical Industries Project in Port Harcourt. Wike characterized Fubara's return as a correction of a mistake rather than an act requiring forgiveness, stating that politics is not a sin.

Wike stated that the reconciliation aims to strengthen the mobilization of votes for President Bola Tinubu's re-election in the 2027 general election. He made these remarks while inspecting infrastructure projects in Abuja, including the ISEX Road Corridor and Apo-Karshi Road, noting that completing inherited projects aligns with President Tinubu's directive to prevent the waste of public investments.
