Opposition Leaders Demand Resignations Over Election Commission Disputes

Political tensions have escalated in India as opposition figures and youth activists demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The controversy stems from allegations of match-fixing elections and a report suggesting internal rifts within the Election Commission of India regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) claims over 13 crore names were excluded from draft rolls across 30 states and Union territories.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Kerala BJP President, has demanded an apology from Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a traitor and for targeting the Chief Election Commissioner. Chandrasekhar warned Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan that he would continue to label Gandhi a fraud unless an apology is issued. The Election Commission of India has dismissed reports of internal conflict, stating that final decisions are passed with unanimous approval.
Adding to the pressure, Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal urged the CJP to shift its demands from the Chief Election Commissioner to Prime Minister Modi, asserting that the commissioner acts at the prime minister's behest. While the CJP has threatened nationwide agitations, spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka maintained that the group will not withdraw its demand for Kumar's resignation until the allegations are addressed publicly.
