U.S. Japan and South Korea Coordinate on North Korea

Foreign ministers from the United States, Japan, and South Korea will meet in Manila to coordinate security and economic cooperation regarding North Korea.

Marco Rubio and his counterparts from Japan and South Korea will meet in Manila this Wednesday to coordinate on North Korean issues and strengthen trilateral security and economic ties. The meeting takes place on the sidelines of ministerial gatherings related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Diplomats intend to discuss regional developments and the Middle East crisis. This session follows a July 7 trilateral meeting at the NATO summit in Ankara, where the three nations reaffirmed their commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. During that previous encounter, they signed a memorandum of cooperation to accelerate the deployment of small modular reactors in third countries, specifically targeting the Indo-Pacific region.
