Iraqi Foreign Minister Urges US and Iran Diplomacy
Fuad Hussein called for the United States and Iran to resume diplomatic negotiations to end a conflict that has disrupted Iraqi security and oil exports.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein urged the United States and Iran to return to diplomatic negotiations to end their ongoing conflict. Speaking in Washington, Hussein stated that Iraq has become a victim of the confrontation, citing security attacks and economic disruptions to oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz.
Hussein expressed Iraq's readiness to facilitate talks if approached by both nations, noting that the country is in an excellent position to arrange meetings. This call for diplomacy comes as President Donald Trump stated that Iran's latest proposal was insufficient and suggested military operations could resume.
Additionally, Hussein characterized the conclusion of the U.S. military mission in Iraq as a new chapter for Iraqi sovereignty. He emphasized that Baghdad intends to strengthen bilateral ties with the U.S. in the fields of energy, economy, and politics, and plans to negotiate a new bilateral security agreement.
