AI Stocks Rout as CoreWeave Bond Yields Spike

Semiconductor and AI stocks plummeted Friday following a spike in CoreWeave corporate bond yields and allegations of vendor financing schemes at Nvidia.

The stock market suffered a severe downturn on Friday, October 17, 2026, led by a rout in semiconductor and AI-related equities. The sell-off began after corporate bond yields for CoreWeave spiked above 15%, fueling investor fears that the data center super-cycle has ended.

Critics, including Herb Greenberg, allege that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang implemented a vendor finance scheme by funding customers to purchase Nvidia GPUs, drawing parallels to the Lucent Technologies collapse of 2000. CoreWeave CEO Michael Intrator had previously used billions in funding from Nvidia to construct data centers for hyperscalers.

Financial commentator Jim Cramer disputed the notion that the AI paradigm is broken, arguing instead that the crash resulted from the collapse of over-leveraged hedge funds. Cramer maintains that Nvidia chips retain long-term value and predicts the AI infrastructure build-out will eventually reach between $10 trillion and $12 trillion, supported by future public offerings from Anthropic and OpenAI.
