Francesca Hong Leads Wisconsin Democratic Gubernatorial Primary Polling

State representative Francesca Hong has emerged as the polling frontrunner in the Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial primary ahead of the August 12 vote. A three-term member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and former restaurant owner, Hong holds a 22-point lead over second-place contender David Crowley, according to a State Navigate poll.

Hong is running on a democratic socialist platform focused on economic relief. Her key proposals include raising the minimum wage to $20 per hour, establishing state-guaranteed paid leave, and increasing taxes on individuals earning over $1 million annually to fund public schools and lower middle-class property taxes. She has also pledged a one-year moratorium on new AI data center construction to combat rising electricity and water costs, a move that has garnered bipartisan support following warnings from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin regarding power demand.

Despite her momentum, Hong faces opposition from Democratic establishment figures. Governor Tony Evers has expressed skepticism regarding her electability in a swing state and endorsed David Crowley. Additionally, Donald Trump has attacked Hong's past social media posts to undermine her candidacy. While Hong has received backing from Representatives Ilhan Omar and Ro Khanna, other prominent progressives like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have declined to endorse her. The primary winner will face Republican candidate Tom Tiffany in the November general election.
