NCP (SP) Delegation Meets Narendra Modi Over Maharashtra Issues

A delegation of eight Lok Sabha Members of Parliament from the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday, August 10. Led by working president Supriya Sule, the group discussed regional issues affecting Maharashtra, including drought in Beed, onion pricing, and pollution in the Chandrabhaga river. The delegation also requested Bharat Ratna awards for social reformers and proposed naming the Navi Mumbai International Airport after D.B. Patil.

The meeting, which lasted between 15 and 20 minutes, focused on infrastructure projects like the Nashik-Pune high-speed railway and concerns regarding the Chakan Industrial Zone. It did not address the FCRA Amendments Bill, which Sule has previously urged the government to withdraw. This interaction follows a July 22 meeting between Modi, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, and Sule regarding NEET paper leaks and water management.

Despite the meeting, party members Bajrang Sonawane and Amol Kolhe explicitly denied speculation that the NCP (SP) would join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. While the party maintains its commitment to the Opposition, internal divisions exist regarding a proposed Delimitation Bill. MLA Rohit Pawar stated that all party MPs would vote against the legislation, though president Shashikant Shinde suggested the party might be open to discussion under specific conditions.
