Bhupesh Baghel Submits Punjab Congress Leadership Report to AICC

Bhupesh Baghel submitted a report to the AICC recommending against changing the Punjab Congress leadership despite demands from a rebel faction led by Charanjit Singh Channi.

AICC Punjab affairs in-charge Bhupesh Baghel submitted a leadership report to General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal in New Delhi on Wednesday. The report followed a six-day consultation period in Punjab, during which Baghel met with 92 leaders, including sitting and former legislators, to address factional infighting within the state unit.

The report addresses a rift between the party high command and a rebel group led by former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. This faction has demanded a leadership change, arguing that Channi should head the unit to better position the party for the 2027 Assembly elections. However, the party high command previously decided to retain the current state chief, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.

Baghel indicated that the party is unlikely to alter the recently announced organizational setup, stating that leadership decisions are not a "game of puppets or dolls." Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are currently reviewing feedback from senior leaders to resolve the internal divide and restore unity before the upcoming polls.
