Doug Ford Installs Billboard Defying Trump Lake Renaming Order

Ontario Premier Doug Ford unveiled a billboard asserting the name Lake Ontario after President Donald Trump ordered the body of water renamed Lake America.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford unveiled a large bilingual billboard near Grimsby reading "Lake Ontario. Now and Always" to defy a U.S. executive order. President Donald Trump had directed U.S. federal agencies to rename the body of water Lake America, a move that comes amid collapsed trade negotiations and the announcement of retaliatory tariffs by the Treasury Board of Canada.

The dispute has escalated into personal conflict. Trump dismissed Ford as a "flunky" of Prime Minister Mark Carney and mocked his intelligence. Ford responded by claiming former President Ronald Reagan would be "disgusted" by Trump's current tariff policies.

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew ridiculed the renaming decree, comparing Trump's actions to an aging rock band playing old hits. Kinew referenced a previous order that renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America as evidence of a recurring pattern in the U.S. president's presidency.
