Ganduje Dismisses Opposition's 2027 Chances as Obidient Movement Mobilizes

Political activity for Nigeria's 2027 presidential election intensified as opposing camps clashed over regional viability and governance. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, asserted during a public event in Kano that Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar lack the grassroots structure and regional appeal to defeat President Bola Tinubu. Ganduje described Northern Nigeria as a strategic deciding factor and argued that the opposition cannot mobilize sufficient support in the region to unseat the incumbent.

In addition to his assessment of the candidates, Ganduje urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to implement stricter registration requirements for political parties. He maintained that only parties with functional structures, clear ideologies, and broad national reach should be recognized to improve the democratic process.

Simultaneously, the Obidient Movement organized the FCT Obidient Movement Engagement Forum in Abuja to mobilize support for Peter Obi, who is running under the Nigeria Democratic Congress. Movement leaders and party officials criticized the current administration's handling of the economy, specifically targeting the removal of fuel subsidies and wasteful public expenditure. Forum organizers emphasized youth participation and a commitment to accountability as the primary means to achieve a New Nigeria through the 2027 democratic process.
