Rahul Gandhi Youth Event Sparks Clash With BJP
Rahul Gandhi held a student interaction event in Pune, triggering a political dispute with the BJP over the gathering's authenticity and purpose.
Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, conducted a student interaction event titled ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ in Pune on August 22, 2026. The gathering was part of a broader youth outreach programme organized by the Indian National Congress.
The event triggered a political clash with the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP Maharashtra vice-president Keshav Upadhye dismissed the interaction as a "political comedy show," alleging that the Congress party bussed in students and that Gandhi used the platform to make political allegations rather than addressing student concerns.
Congress national secretary Sachin Sawant responded by claiming the BJP was "shaken" and "unsettled" by the turnout, specifically noting the presence of young women despite government restrictions. Sawant further criticized a planned interaction between Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Gen Z members in Nagpur, describing it as an attempt to preach patriarchal values.
