China Rejects NATO Accusations of Sanctions Circumvention

China denies NATO allegations that it supplied dual-use goods to Russia and describes the military alliance as a Cold War relic.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China rejected accusations from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization that China assisted Russia in circumventing sanctions and supplying dual-use goods. These claims were raised by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who stated that the alliance is monitoring China's actions regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

Chinese spokesperson Lin Jian responded on June 18, describing NATO as a Cold War relic and urging the alliance to reflect on its impact on global peace and stability. Lin denied that China has provided lethal weapons to either party in the Ukraine conflict and asserted that the government maintains strict control over the export of dual-use items.

Lin urged NATO to rectify its perceptions of China and cease instigating confrontation, maintaining that China remains objective and committed to promoting peace talks. Amid these tensions, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to visit New Delhi, India, for the 16th meeting of BRICS national security advisers to discuss multilateralism and global security challenges.
