NATO Commander Says Russian Sabotage Aims to Undermine Ukraine Support
General Alexus Grynkewich asserts NATO's military superiority deters Russian conventional attacks, while Moscow uses sabotage and arson to weaken European support for Ukraine.
Supreme Allied Commander Europe Alexus Grynkewich stated that NATO military capabilities far exceed those of Russia, which prevents Moscow from launching a large-scale conventional attack on Europe. In an interview with Der Spiegel, Grynkewich noted that Russia lacks modern F-35 fighter jets and a comparable number of advanced destroyers and submarines.
He argued that Russian President Vladimir Putin is instead utilizing sabotage, arson, and terrorist attacks to convince European citizens that supporting Ukraine is dangerous. Grynkewich rejected the terms shadow war and hybrid attacks as too broad, insisting that the alliance must call these actions by their proper names to justify clear countermeasures.
To maintain this deterrence and avoid direct confrontation, Grynkewich emphasized that NATO must continue its military modernization and conduct large-scale exercises to preserve its strategic advantage.
