Federal Workers Forum Demands Minimum Wage Increase to ₦300,000

The Federal Workers Forum has demanded an immediate increase in the federal minimum wage from ₦70,000 to ₦300,000. In a letter dated September 2, 2026, addressed to President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly, the forum proposed a new salary structure that would cap the monthly pay for Level 17 officers at ₦1.5 million.

The forum alleges that the Government of Nigeria has not fully implemented the 2024 minimum wage agreement, specifically regarding associated allowances and consequential adjustments. Beyond the base salary hike, the workers are seeking the payment of promotion arrears and outstanding salaries, a permanent Cost of Living Allowance, and comprehensive health insurance.

Additional demands include free education for the children of federal workers and pensioners in federal institutions. The forum urged the National Assembly to secure these adjustments immediately rather than waiting for the statutory three-year review scheduled for July 2027.
