Atiku Abubakar Urges Tinubu to Withdraw from 2027 Race
Atiku Abubakar demanded President Bola Tinubu exit the 2027 presidential race, citing institutional disorder and alleged interference in the Nigerian Bar Association election.
Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have called for President Bola Tinubu to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, alleging a systemic collapse of governance and administrative competence. Atiku characterized the administration's actions as a series of governance blunders, specifically highlighting a leadership crisis at the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA). He noted that outgoing head Dakorinama Alabo George reportedly refused to vacate his post despite the appointment of Abdulrazak Namdas as a replacement.
The ADC expanded these criticisms by describing an appointment fiasco and a struggle for control within the executive branch. The party cited the BCDA incident and the existence of a phantom agency, the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, as evidence that the Presidency is losing its constitutional authority. This instability led the ADC to urge the National Assembly to determine if President Tinubu remains fit to discharge his duties.
Beyond administrative failures, Atiku accused the president of meddling in the Nigerian Bar Association election. He alleged that the administration is using the poll as a test run to refine strategies for rigging the 2027 general elections through a state-sponsored toxic politics of coronation involving courts and security agencies to disqualify opposition candidates.
