Andy Burnham Reshuffles Cabinet Following Starmer Downfall

Prime Minister Andy Burnham reorganized the United Kingdom's ministerial team following the downfall of Sir Keir Starmer. As part of a major shake-up, Burnham appointed John Healey as Chancellor of the Exchequer to lead the Treasury team.

Within the Treasury, Lucy Rigby returned as City minister and economic secretary, succeeding Rachel Blake. Emma Reynolds was appointed chief secretary to the Treasury, while James Murray took over as financial secretary and paymaster general, replacing Lord Spencer Livermore. Additionally, Angela Eagle received a promotion to environment secretary.

The reshuffle extended to other departments, with Dan Jarvis returning as security minister. Andy Slaughter was named Solicitor General, and Anna Turley and Florence Eshalomi assumed new positions in the Home Office and housing respectively. Anas Sarwar is expected to join the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade after receiving a peerage.

Several officials exited the government during the transition. Safeguarding minister Natalie Fleet resigned, and migration minister Mike Tapp stepped down. Former armed forces minister Al Carns declined a role in the new administration, citing unresolved concerns over defence funding. Mary Creagh and Olivia Bailey also departed their roles as environment and early education ministers, and the government confirmed Lord Jason Stockwood would no longer serve as investment minister.
