Pakistan Foreign Exchange Reserves Hit Record $21.4 Billion
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that State Bank of Pakistan reserves reached a historic $21.4 billion, driven by Eurobond proceeds and increased remittances.
Foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan reached a record $21.4 billion during the week ending September 11, 2026. This increase of approximately $3.061 billion was primarily driven by proceeds from a recent Eurobond issuance, bringing the country's total liquid foreign exchange reserves to $26.8 billion, the highest level since September 2021.
Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, attributed the milestone to fiscal discipline, a better current account position, and improvements in services exports and remittances. He stated that the surge reflects a restoration of global confidence in the economy and a successful re-entry into international capital markets.
The government expects the expanded reserves, which have increased import cover to over three months, to strengthen external payment capacity and attract further foreign investment. The Prime Minister credited the achievement to the hard work of the economic team and the implementation of sound policy measures.
