APC and Governor Adeleke Clash Ahead of Osun Election

Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led a high-level strategic meeting in Abuja to prepare for the Osun governorship election on August 15, 2026. Basiru urged party leaders to intensify grassroots mobilization and maintain unity to secure victory for the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, promising a peaceful, issue-based campaign.

However, tensions escalated as the APC and Governor Ademola Adeleke traded accusations regarding political stability. Adeleke claimed that President Bola Tinubu and former governor Adegboyega Oyetola are responsible for extrajudicial killings and instability in the state, warning that a repeat of the 1983 political crisis could occur if the election is rigged. He called on President Tinubu to intervene and ensure a free and fair process.

Basiru dismissed these claims as cheap blackmail driven by a fear of defeat. In response, the APC accused Adeleke of bankrolling political violence and housing thugs in the state government house. The party further criticized Adeleke's governance, citing a deficit of 30,000 teachers and the state of dilapidated roads, while urging the governor to focus on these failures rather than blaming APC leaders.
