Karoline Leavitt Resigns as White House Press Secretary

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will resign at the end of August 2026. Leavitt, 28, the youngest person to hold the position, stated that the demanding nature of the role prevented her from being the mother her two young children deserve following the birth of her daughter in May.

Trump praised Leavitt as one of the best press secretaries in the history of the office and announced she will transition into a role as one of his top outside advisors and an influential voice within the Republican Party to assist in the upcoming midterm elections.

Leavitt's tenure was characterized by a combative relationship with the media, including banning the Associated Press from certain events in February 2025 and expanding press access to include independent journalists and influencers. Shortly before her resignation announcement, Leavitt faced social media backlash after a photo of her notes was flagged on X. The image appeared to contain a reminder to use the phrase "extreme liberal Democrats" during a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity, during which Leavitt claimed "radical extreme far left liberals" would turn the country into a "communist hellhole."
